Uniform Patrol
The Uniform Patrol Division of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office consists of 19 Deputy Sheriff positions, and 2 School Resource Officers. The 19 Officers provide Law Enforcement services to a 1,050 mile area. The Deputies are deployed to one of four 12 hour rotating shifts, and rotate zone assignments within Taylor County and the City of Perry.
The division, by nature of patrol, handles crime prevention and detection. The Division responds to calls for service from citizens, alarm companies, businesses, and traffic crashes with minor traffic accident investigations. The Division conducts initial criminal investigations, crime scene processing, some civil process service, and criminal warrant service. Each deputy is issued a marked patrol vehicle that they take home in order to provide a law enforcement presence in neighborhood communities and provide for a faster response time during a time of emergency.
Each unit is outfitted with a Mobile Data Computer (MDC) which enables the Deputies to communicate with other Deputies, on duty City Police units, as well as the Dispatch center. Each unit has the ability to check tags, driver’s licenses, articles and persons through local and NCIC databases. The Deputies may also receive their calls from the CAD system on the computer in the car.
One of three SRO Offices is assigned to the Elementary School located in Perry, and divides their time between it and two other schools; the other SRO Officer is assigned to the Taylor County Middle School. These units also have take-home patrol units. These units provide law enforcement services for the assigned schools. They also assist with security for the various sporting events locally, and out-of-town games.
